Hi Power Proof Marks

Hello Forum Members,

I was wondering if anyone in the group might have some time to help me with a question regarding a T series HP

I noticed that the barrel has a controller of proof code that is different from the frame and slide. The barrel is marked with an S with the 5 point star above it and the frame and slide are marked with a W and the same star.

I'm wondering if this is normal or if the markings should be consistent between frame and barrel. The barrel does not have a serial number on it, which I believe is normal for T series pistols from the late '60s Is it possible that the barrel is not the original barrel?

If anyone has any information To share, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I can provide photos of all the proof marks and he serial number if that would help.

Thanks

Peter

G'day Peter.

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

Secondly, it is possible that your barrel is not original to the pistol. That is not a huge concern unless you want an all original pistol for its collector's value.

My personal (FN roll-marked) T series is far from collector grade since it has been refinished twice, and some of the internals, springs in particular, are not original. That said, it is one of the best shooters I have and an EDC carry gun.

Thanks for your reply and for welcoming me to the forum.

In a perfect world, all original would be my preference. With that being said, this is my first dip in the pool on browning HPs and this one seems to be in great shape and shoots just fine.

Ive been digging around on the topic and posted the same question on another forum - sorry if that is bad form - and have concluded nothing hahha. It seems that they are generally supposed to match between slide, frame and barrel, but others have seen mixed marks and still believe them to be original.

Ill throw some pics up to see if that helps.
