I go back and forth in my mind as to whether it is better to be in a situation (as many Law Enforcement Officers find themselves) to have unlimited supplies of ammunition, but strictly limited to what they are allowed to carry for self-defense, or the other option, which is to be, like most civilians, open to experiment and choose from the myriad calibers and high-performance self-defense ammunition out there.

It might all come down to what the mandated round is for each law enforcement agency.

Free unlimited ammo will lead to more practice, I think most of the difference in hollow points is in what kinda geewiz name they have and how fancy the graphics on the package. Even if there is, the difference is minor compared to shot placement, I'd like my LEO's to have all the practice ammo they want. Sticking with one brand will probably enable the department to get major bulk order discounts. Pretty much every government agency in the world issues duty ammo and the agency decides what it is. Sorta goes with the territory when working in the field.

I take the free stuff, but over the years I've acquired more influence with the agency and have gotten us into some of the better ammunition. We're all Gold Dot now.
