Hi All,

What's your favorite Glock Flavor?

I keep reading various posts on carrying and duty handguns and occasionally while everyone talks about their favorite handgun, the wind up bringing up the Glock they carry because of LEO duties or Concealed Carry.

So, what's your favorite Glock Flavor and why?

Mine is the G-23 due to compactness, capacity and calibre selection. It is the handgun I qualified with for CWP and my constant companion.

The original (G17) and its same-size cousin the G22 reside in my safe, and take turns occasionally 'riding the river' with me. Only proviso for me is: No Gen 3 guns, as those built in finger grooves don't fit me a'tall.

The only Glock I own is a second generation M19 that I got in a very complicated trade with a buddy whose camera had broken.

It's reliable, accurate, has firepower to spare; it's also a fairly compact package, but it doesn't do CCW duty.

26 and 36 - depends on what I'm doing and how I'm dressed. I like to carry the teensy G26 either in my SmartCarry (usually), IWB or in the pocket (occasionally), with two G17 mags as back-up. (If I get paranoid, I own several G18 mags.
) If I carry it IWB, I have a "formerly LEO-only" +2 factory mag that I mount. I carry Speer Gold Dot 147-grainers.

The G36 I tend to carry more when hiking or in heavy winter clothes weather, again either SmartCarry or IWB. I usually carry two back-up mags, at least one with the Pearce +1 extension (and the Wolff +10% springs to ensure reliablility). IWB, I use one of the +1 mags in the gun. I carry Federal 200-gr +P EFMJs.

Hi Erich,

Hahahaha! G-18 magazines!

I just this week saw a G-18 in operation this week on The History Channel's "Mail Call". Pretty awesome weapon!

Do they make a 30 round magazine that's reliable for the Glock 22/23?

I've got to get one of those... ;)

Glock doesn't make big sticks for the .40s, but Scherer does. I've heard that they're reasonably reliable.

Personally, I stick with the Glock factory mags in 31- or 33- rounds for my "big-stick" needs. :)

Gents,

My current Glock flavor is 1911...;-)
Just kidding. I carried a G23 for a couple years and loved it, but went back to the 1911 and BHP's because I shoot well with them. I'm still holding court on the CZ-75...

The only Glocks I currently own is a G19 and a G36. The G36 is one of the best feeling pistols Glock has produced. Don't believe there is any with a better power to weight ratio.

All the best,

Wes

Hi Larry,

I owned a Glock 26 in 1998 and thought it was a great little Glock, but a traded it for something else. My initial impressions were that it didn't offer me enough purchase with my hand for rapid fire controllability when shooting it in self-defense drills, but honestly didn't know that the Pearce Grip Extensions were available back then.

I still have the same issues with the Glock 23, and I am currently looking at getting some of the Pearce Magazine base plates that fill the half-moon cut out at the base of the grip. (Honestly, I still don't know off hand why they designed the gun that way).

I would but another Glock 26 in a heartbeat for pocket carry with the DeSantis Nemesis Holster. I have been carrying my Kel Tec for the past week in the holster and barely notice that it is there.

I have a 31 and a 23. I have a 9mm conversion barrel for the 23 and a 40 barrel for the 31 for practice.

I occasionally carry the 31 if I work a daylight assignment as the holster for my P226 has a light on it and is kinda big for working in the office.

The 23 only gets use as a practice piece (usually in 9mm) it belonged to a friend of mine who was killed by a drunk driver driving home from his extra job, so it really has more value as a keepsake than anything else.

I like the 2nd gen G23 a whole bunch; and the 2nd gen G24 that I'm transferring this weekend to finance a good PPC pistol.. I haven't shot the G19, but am willing to...

The only Glock that I own is a G27. I own it because I got such a good deal on it that I couldn't pass ($325 including a +1 and a Pierce grip extender as well as a holster). It had only had 40 rounds fired through it. I carry this gun a lot due to its size and capacity.

While I like Glocks, I'm not a rabid fan of them. There are many other makes that I like better, but I respect Glock for what it has been able to accomplish.
