What is your favorite .22 ammo and why?

It depends...on what I am trying to achieve.

A lot of my .22 shooting is for introducing new shooters to firearms, or for just fun plinking in the back yard at reactive targets. For that it is what is on sale - within reason - it has to work in a wide variety of firearms.

Some of my use for the .22 is small game hunting. For that, while the cheap stuff will do, I usually am willing to spend a little more for both accuracy and a well suited load. For Squirrels I like the RWS Subsonic HP. I found it was as accurate as Eley at less than half the price but it is still not that cheap - about $30 for 500 rounds last time I purchased some (Remington now makes an equivilent load that might be OK).

For autoloading pistols that just have to work, I have found that CCI Mini mags seem to function in some of my more "finicky" pistolas...like my Walter PPKS which I finally traded off.
