Growing up with 1911's I never heard this term. I know what it refers to but why "Dustcover" Never saw an Auto Pistol without the frame extending fully under the slide.

Anybody know ?

ive wondered that also....i never heard of it called that when i was in the service, and a few years later we went to the beretta 92 anyway....

On the slide it would be the 'Recoil Spring Plug Housing'. On the frame it would be the 'Recoil Spring and Guide Housing'. Or you could just say 'dust cover'. On the 1911, that is. On a Hi-Power with no plug, it would just be 'Recoil Spring Housing' on the slide and the same as the 1911 on the frame. Etc., etc.
