Let's see... with advice from various folks I've managed to change out the sights on the MKIII from the clunky Millett adjustables to Trijicons. I've installed the heavier (18.5 lb.) recoil spring and have certified that the gun works with the ammunition I've settled on as carry loads. (The magazine in the gun is the 125-grain Cor Bon +P, while the reload is normally the 124-grain Federal Hydra Shok. Both have been tested for functioning, and both hit very close to POA.)
I don't like the spurred hammer, so today I went to the C&S website and got a C&S Commander style hammer. I ordered a Ross M5S holster but found very quickly that, as with other holsters, the MKIII ambidextrous safety "slides off" with any movement, and since the thumbreak is very hard to snap into place, I'm virtually assured of carrying a gun with no safety engaged at all. Thus, my order to C&S also included an extended safety such as the one I installed on the late 70s Belgian. This safety is much, much more positive.
The last thing I'm adding (for now, at least) is a beefed up trigger return spring. I've had a couple of occasions during rapid fire when the trigger would not return fully into battery, so I was forced to do a second trigger release in order to fire the next round.
Oh yeah, I'm also going to order a recoil buffer, but it'll have to wait till I need something else from someplace where I can also get the buffer.
I realized this morning that this project has now cost me a lot more than I could ever get for the gun, but it's probably a good bit less than it would cost to have someone else do the work for me. And I've had a lot of fun, which is a good thing.
