I'm a big fan of the XD series, especially the .45, as I now have two, one a Tactical like yours, the other a Service model with 4" tube.
What I have found when learning any new gun is that I have to learn certain things about my grip and trigger pull. With the XDs, I started shooting to the left but found that a firmer grip and a more consistent straight back trigger pull took care of the problem. With any new platform, I always assume that I need to look at myself and my relationship to the gun before looking anywhere else.
