The Academy store on Loop 1604 & 281 in San Antonio has Sigmas for $299 and M&Ps for $499. This includes a mail-in rebate coupon good for $50 back and two extra magazines. I tried both of them (in 9mm) and, despite the fact that I have small hands, the fit was pretty good. However, based on a couple of magazine articles and some forum postings, I'm also considering the Ruger SR9. Haven't had a chance to handle one so I don't know how it would fit.

Any experience with/recommendations on these three guns with regards to reliability and durability?

I have not seen the Ruger SR9 but the Sigma is a good workable pistol at a bargain price. The MP9 is a great pistol and reasonable price. If I was going to only have one, I would probably go for the MP9 as they fit my hand best. The Sigmas are durable and the mags are cheap. The MP9 is very popular in IDPA competition but the mags are a bit pricey now.

I have shot all three and I would chose the Ruger over the M&P and Sigmas. The Ruger's grip with the arched adaptor in place feels a lot like a BHP, with I favor and the trigger is the best of the three. I like the addition of a thumb safety asw well.

I'd have to go with the M&P over the Sigma and the Ruger. After holding the Ruger when they first came available, I did not like the grip angle: too glock-ish for me. The adjustable grip on the M&P would be a major plus.
