Hi there all,
took my brand new Kel Tec P3-AT to the local indoor shooting range today, filled with anxious anticipation of a fun filled and successful shooting session.
Upon my arrival, I filled out the necessary indoor range consent form, grabbed 2 B-27 targets and headed into the range. Donning ear and eye protection, I set up at my usual station, placed my target 15 yards downrange and loaded up a magazine. I started firing carefully at the center mass of the target downrange aiming for the x-ring.
I went through 50 rounds of Remington UMC .380 without a hiccup. No failures to feed or extract. Excellent I thought!!! All of the rounds were peppering in and around the x-ring.
I grabbed a box of Mag Tech's from my shooting bag, loaded the magazine and then let loose, blam!, blam!, blam!.
The next thing I know the Range Officer (range kid) was standing next to me yelling Sir!, blam! blam! You can't, blam!, blam!, shoot that, blam!, blam!, ammunition in here!, blam!, blam!. I stopped shooting and looked at wonderment at him. What "Sir, you can't shoot Mag Tech in here, the lead core is hard and will bounce back at you!!!"
Well, I surrendered the offending ammunition to the range kid, and pulled out the P-11 to shoot, but quite honestly was a little embarrassed that my session with the P3-AT had been ended.
I finished up shooting about 150 rounds through my Kel Tec P-11, cleaned up the boxes, targets and paid for my range time without a word and left.
I will finish my range report when I can locate some less offensive ammunition for the indoor range. I would like to note that one time I was hit in the chest by a guy in the stall next to me shooting hard cast reloads that rebounded off of the back stop. (It stung a little)....
