AIM has a batch of these currently. I've been shopping for an inexpensive 9mm and prefer to buy one from someone who will retail directly to me. As an Ohio resident AIM is a prime candidate. I've purchased police trade-in weapons from them before and have been pleased with the value. Having said all of that, what can anyone say about this particular pistol? They appear to to be SA/DA with adjustable sites, but I am not sure. The S&W website doesn't list them as currently in production. What is the history of this pistol?

Hi there curioandrelic,

I've seen them advertised for quite a while in the Southern Ohio Guns Flyers.

They appear to be the 3rd generation offering of S&W semi-automatic pistols. As a police trade-in condition varies from good to very good.

Like most police turn-ins, they will exhibit a some externalwear, in my opinion, but very little mechanical wear and offer a outstanding value to the person that wants to get into a caliber and action type with a reasonable investment.

My limited experience with S&W autos is that they're extremely reliable. The DA/SA trigger doesn't work for me, but they do for a lot of people.

Probably an excellent value.

The 5904 is the matt black finish 3rd generation "small" frame auto pistol.

The 5904 is excellent and extremely reliable and well built... plus it has the S&W lifetime warranty.

They are a great value.
