Stephen,
First, I want to thank you for hosting Hi-Powers and Handguns, and your efforts with them. I began my association with the H-P in 1989. Purchasing a std blue model with fixed sights. Sent it to Bill Laughridge, at C&S, and he worked his magic. Buried Bomars, master polish, and a host of other goodies. Needless to say I have a pretty good chunk of change in it. Also, has a hard chromed frame. That H-P went with me to a number of advanced training courses and I always shot in the top 1 or 2 shooters.
Frankly the pistol is to damn nice to carry, now. Got a Practical model in .40 S & W. Initial impression was very good. Trigger was superb. NO complaints at all except for the sights. Yes, they are hi-vis, but the white paint and lack of serrations on the blade just don't give me a decent sight picture. My old eyes don't help. Still breaking it in...ZERO malfunctions to date with any ammo.
On the sight thread...If the Novak sight can't be machined deeply into the slide an option would be to cut the dovetail off the sight and make a corresponding "flat" on the rear top of the slide. Soft solder them and VIOLA!
Looks like that's what Bill did with my Bo-Mars. Very neat installation.
Bill recommended Winch Silvertip 115 grain JHP's and that's what I carry. I love the Hi-Power...just love my Stainless Commander better. I carry both and am comfortable with them.
All the best,
Wes
