Any body had a chance to look at the Nighthawk Custom Hi Power? Looks real purdy but I'm not sure if it's a great buy with an MSRP of $2895.00.

abninftr,

Yes. I just did it again and the only thread on that subject that comes up now is this thread. Possibly this item is in a thread labeled something different.

I like--and have some nice stuff-- but I'm very hard pressed to see how that pistol is greatly superior to the "select" Israeli Mk III I got for 1/10th of that price years back.

Guess I'm just a Timex kind of guy.

I do not recall if I stated this in the old thread. I may be stating something similar to what I stated before.

Nighthawk Custom recognized they would not be appealing to general BHP market with this modified BHP offering. Their target market is those customers who do not want to wait for a similarly modified BHP from those shops who do them on a first in-first out basis. The Nighthawk price is not out of line with those shops when you add up the price of the individual modifications.

The complaint I see about the Nighthawk BHP is some prospective customers want to delete some of the standard feature set modifications. Those customers are then back to the wait in line custom modification shopping option.

As of today their website shows BHP prices starting at $3195.

I have a 2009 9mm NHC Ladyhawk with the aluminum frame option (+$200) and it shoots beautifully. I contacted them about a year ago & asked if they'd build a Commander size HP and was told it was being discussed. Apparently nothing came of it.

I was fortunate enough to stumble across a FN Detective Model 95 in on Armslist. It only had one mag, no box and I must have contacted the dealer in ID about an hour after he listed it. He was going on vacation so I had to wait two weeks & it was a bit like waiting for Christmas but when it arrived it was so clean it didn't look like it'd been fired. There were a couple of faint scratches in the finish (Duracoat?) but that was it. I HATE ambi safeties & the first thing I did was pinch my right finger when I flipped down the left side. I replaced it with a left side safety, installed an extended slide lock/release and a pair of Aluma-Grips. I also removed the magazine disconnector which improved the trigger pull/break a little but it still has a long takeup which can be fixed if I feel like spending the $$$. It shoots very nice & eats anything I feed it. I had plans to have the ring on the front of the slide removed, the barrel and guide rod reverse crowned but decided not to spend money on something I'd never recoup the cost on. I really don't like the "billboard" on the slide but it is what it is. For now it's an occasional shooter but primarily a safe queen. I may sell it or trade it for something more interesting - who knows.

Just a quick correction......I believe that you purchased an FM(Argentine) Detective HP, and not an FN(Belgian) HP. I own a 90 Model FM and love the thing. This HP will not be for sale, and it makes it to the range regularly.

I can't see the $$$ that NHC gets for their BHP, but if people want what they offer.....then go for it!! Life is short!!

You're correct - it's an FM & I knew that. The N & M keys are next to each other on the keyboard but certainly makes a difference - especially in this case!

I remember Novaks charging $1800 to $2000+ some years ago. I couldn't afford it then either, but I sure drooled a lot.

Hi Powers remain neat with a special feel. A good custom has it too.

The Nighthawk seems to be a very nice modification of the basic HP.

The price isn't cheap... but there are those who don't mind spending for such mods.

For my part, I tend to be a minimalist... You can make an HP stand up and sing for not a huge amount of money... the rest is in the 'nice to have' category...

FWIW
