I might have to do the same thing and put one of those Kel-Tec, 32's or a 380 on layaway at my local shop. I don't really want it for a carry gun, but just to have it.
My wife thought these guns were "cute". She about cracked up when she saw there was on at the show in Richmond the other day that had a (I kid you not) PINK slide. I don't know if it was a 32, or a 380. I don't know if that is something that KT offers or if it was something the dealer had done.
The big thing I like about the Mak is that it is a 'everyman'''s gun. It is inexpensive, but not cheap. The ammo it shoots is inexpensive. It will do the job of self defense. It's not a perfect handgun, but there there is no such thing. Some might be better than others, but something is better than nothing.
A lot of people can afford a Glock, or a Sig, or the laterst "Wonderbang", but not everyone can. There are a lot of people who don't make a lot of money, or are on fixed incomes, or who simply don't want to spend a lot of money on a handgun. Ironically enough these are very people most likely to really NEED a handgun for self protection.
