Hey All,

Today I loaded my second spare mag with ball.

The one in the pistol and primary spare are still loaded with EFMJ 124gr +P.

Remember the EFMJ will begin to deform on any intermediate barriers. I believe that's it's one true downfall.

Those considering carrying EFMJ or Pow'r'Ball or the like may want to consider this prior to their purchases.

Hmm. I never thought about this when I carried the 200-gr +P EFMJs in my G36, but it makes sense.

A potential problem for folks who live in colder areas (like Wabash, IN! ;) ), where bad guys may soon start to put on heavy leather coats. Josh, I think you're wise to carry the FMJs in reserve. Those will assuredly penetrate.

Okay, call me a rank amateur, but I worry about stuff like this as well. So what I do is "Dutch load" a combination of whatever JHP I'm carrying, one to one with 124-grain NATO ball. Currently my carry BHP is loaded with seven rounds of 127 Ranger +P+ and six rounds of the NATO. I found that quite a few people load up like this; deeper than usual penetration isn't really a "bad" thing when the choice is an inability of the bullet to make it to the essential giblets.

What's EFMJ again? Okay, never mind. Expanding FMJ

Gee Josh, wherever did you get such a good idea from? Kinda sounds familiar, like I got some deja vu going on...
Hi Brian,

If'n you said it before then I apologize for not giving due credit.

In all honesty though, I loaded up with FMJ one day for woods carry. Having no more EFMJ and no way to get more, I left them in my third magazine. I almost changed it to Black Hills GD load but thought better about penetration (hard barrier as opposed to clothing).

Gents,

One nice thing about the ammunition we carry is there is lot's of choices. Do we "candy cane" different ammo, go half JHP/half ball, or traditional one load type per magazine.
I prefer to carry one load type per magazine. While that used to be 115 gr Winch Silver Tip or Fed 115 JHP(for standard pressure loads).
Since the need to penetrate a barrier AND to perform as a hollow point, on the other side I vote for and carry
Winchester Ranger 127 gr +P+ loads.
Gets around both issues.
I won't touch EFMJ or Power Ball until they get more street data for comparison.

Thought you folk would like a look at my HP Platform.

I loved the old federal 124 EFMJ came 50 to a box at decent price, federal changed to 20 in a box, put fancy graphics doubled price now I think they lightenend them to 100grs, I can tell you EFMJ's work great. they look just like a Berry copperplated I used them at "No hollow point allowed 2X4 match. AT the buzzer everyone draw shoot the 2X4 first one to cut it in half wins, So far noone has caught on why I keep winning.

Joe,

I think you're looking at the 105gr public load.

The 124gr +P is a LE load, though Gary at Federal said that it's available to the public and is not restricted at the factory.

Mr. Camp tested some of the 105gr a while back.
