I just recently purchased an Isreal surplus Hi-Power made in 1993. To the best of my knowledge it is a MKIII. I was able to remove the magazine safety with only a little bit of force. The trigger feels much better now and seems to function properly. However, I have been reading that the only way to remove a MKIII magazine safety is to take out the trigger assembly. Since I didn't do that I am a little concerned if I could have damaged the pistol. I don't know why a MKIII needs to have the trigger assembly removed in order to take out the mag safety as I was able to do it relatively easily. Any info is greatly appreciated!

You don't always need to take out the trigger to remove the magazine safety, just if you are having problems getting it out.

Also, the Isreali Hi-Powers aren't always the same as commercial models. I have heard that some of the earlier ones didn't even have magazine safeties (if I'm wrong on either of these statements, forum members who are more knowledgeable than I will be along to correct me).

FN is notorious for using odd numbering. The easiest way to verify you have a MkIII is to look for the firing pin block, there will be a paddle shaped cutout on the bottom of the slide.

awesome that's good to hear! Yeah it seemed to come out without too much trouble so I can't imagine I broke anything. And I didn't know that about the firing pin block so I will check it out. Thanks for your help!
