Hello,

Do any of you have any experience with Federal's line of Low Recoil ammo, Especially their 9mm 135gr Hydra-Shok load, Part No. PD9HS5H?

How did your gun run on it, did it cycle ok, ect.? BTW: Was it lower in regards to recoil?

I'm not so much lookin' for low recoil (all thow it has it's merits) it's the 135gr 9mm bullet that has my interest.

Many Thanks & Take Care,

Hello Mr. Camp,

It's listed at 1060 fps @ muzzle, how does this compare with a 124gr doin' 1140 fps, what I mean is, is the 80 fps drop about right for a bullet thats just 11 grains heavier?

Thanks,

Hi Sockman,

Yes, I used them exclusively for a majority of SD carry applications as it is the easiest round to find around my neck of the woods. It is sold in the majority of gunshops around here.

It functions well in my 9 mm HP's, revolvers and I have run a couple of boxes through my SA 1911 .45 ACP.

It works as "advertised".

I had no idea the 135gr was low recoil.

I used to carry this stuff, if it's a 135gr old style HydraShok.

I stopped carrying it because it felt about like I was firing a hot .380 through my Taurus 92. However, it did cycle just fine.

This was before I knew much about terminal ballistics; though I'm far from being an expert I know much more than I did then.

When I tested it back then I shot a milk jug full of water with one. I found it laying on the ground on the other side, where it apparently dropped. I had similar performance from an old style standard pressure Golden Saber 147gr.

A Black Hills Gold Dot load (124gr +P) will blow up a milk jug and continue on its merry way.

I would only carry the 135gr again if the only other choice was ball ammo. I don't recommend it and don't trust it to give adequate penetration. Because of the low speed I don't trust it not to clog up.

I'll get some more if I can find it again outside the 'net and shoot wetpack or perhaps a racoon with it, and let you know. It may be a while though sir.
