Hello Gents,

I answered a question on another board about the 9mm Federal 124gr +P EFMJ earlier and have since found that all sources seem to be out: Ammoman, CheaperThanDirt, etc, as well as my local sources.

Does anyone know why this stuff is unavailable? Did they discontinue it, or is it all over in the sandbox?

Thanks,

Josh <><

That's the exact same advice I gave to this other feller! LOL

Seriously, thanks. I'll see what my gunshop can do. I'll be going to 124gr +P Bonded GS this summer, but I just trust this stuff more in winter.

I think I'll keep it on hand for testing, and for carry next winter!

Federal in the past has quietly dropped loads while keeping them in the list until the pipeline dries up.

This way whoever made the decision doesn't look bad due to a flurry of last-minute orders.

Not saying this is whats happening; just how they've acted in the past.

Regards,

Pat

What are your reasons for wanting EFMJ's ? I have used them alot (stiil do) but havent bought any in awhile. Some of the reasons I have used them...Look like ball work like hollowpoint in places that dont allow hollowpoints but I wanted the advantage. Feed in my old IDPA 1911 9mm that refused to feed hollowpoints. another option for you may be Speers softpoint. acording to the Speer rep I talked to it is a Goldot with soft lead filling the point. It was intended for use in No hollowpoint allowed jurisdictions. I have never seen any published tests on it nor done anymyself but Speer claimed it would reliably mushroom at typical 9mm velocity.

Joe,

I only want them for winter. The stuff people wear around here will clog any hollowpoint I have run across, including GD +P.

Here's the typical clothing:

  • Heavy jacket[/*:m:twt5c43t]
  • Light jacket[/*:m:twt5c43t]
  • Sweater or sweatshirt[/*:m:twt5c43t]
  • Regular shirt[/*:m:twt5c43t]
  • Undershirt[/*:m:twt5c43t]

This is far and away from the denim tests, and any hollowpoint I've tried will zip through this material and continue on through several milk jugs filled with salt water only to exit the rear one with a caliber-sized hole half the time, or only half-expand and still penetrate too deeply. The only one that doesn't do this is the EFMJ. I'm not too impressed with the "copycats" such as Pow'r'Ball though I do like Cor

Hi Mr. Camp,

I think what I'll do is ride out the rest of this winter with the old stuff as it has been well protected and any funky looking rounds are replaced with good ones (I have 11 spares left). The spare mag will keep carrying the Black Hills GD load.

I'll worry about next winter this summer. I'll test some DPX to my standards (again, my Indiana standards are above the FBI's with regard to clothing) and go from there. I don't know how I feel about a bullet with no lead, but heck, if it works...

Thanks,
