My S & W Model 60 Kit Gun (.357 Magnum) has a slight/faint barrel ring where the barrel and frame mate. I assume that this is a sign of over torquing. The little gun is accurate and my local gunsmith tells me not to be concerned about it. I tend to agree with him as I have seen this same "problem" with other Smiths that shoot well and have had thousands of rounds put through them. However, I'd appreciate the opinion of others regarding this issue. Thank you. --c

im not smart enough to tell you what that ring is from but over torquing seems to be likely....

i also agree with your gun smith in that you should shoot it without worry.....if the guns timing and lock up are right, the only other worry you could have is the barrel I/D dimension. if thats good shoot away.....

Thats been common ever since they went to crush-fit barrels in 1982. Some are obvious enough that you can feel it with a cleaning patch or brush.

Pat
