From my grandfather I inherited a Colt Official Police .38 with a 5 inch barrel. The serial number begins with 430xxx. If anyone can assist with determination of date of manufacture I would appreciate it. I have also read on some posts concern regarding ammo usage for older Colt revolvers, stating that due to design & materials of older revolvers, .38 special ammo should not be used, only .38 Long Colt or “a light loaded .38 spec.”, without reference to how light of a load. Any information, comments or feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.
