Chart of Common Loads?

2318 Views 10 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  pff
Hi All,

Is there a chart some place on the web where I could look up how certain manufactured loads compare to others? For instance, compare the ballistics of a Brand X 125 grain 9 mm HP to another's brand?

I simply want to learn what rounds are considered "hot" and others "light."

Thanks!

the closest thing to what you want is ammoguide.... http://ammoguide.com/

but exactly what you are asking is hard to find unless you're willing to compare mfgs velocity and energy data, and also check for independent chrono data like on Stephen Camp's website, etc.

Good luck,

I'll check that out. Thanks!
earlybird,

I forgot to mention...Guns&Ammo magazine puts out an "annual" issue that has ballistic tables of all kinds of brands of ammo in it. I have the 2004 issue and it has a lot of what you are looking for.
You'll have to check the book store magazine stands and see if they still publish an annual issue.

Probably it would be worth getting one of the old Speer manuals which listed actually velocities out of actual guns in the back of them. I am not sure if they still do this but the #8, 9 and 10 manuals have it if I recall correctly.

The articles are usually titled something like: "Why Balisticians get grey hair." :)

You can usually pick one up on Ebay for a few bucks.

thanks, Jim,
so grey hair is not from age, it's from hanging around websites like this.
