The title sums up my question: can a Hi Power made originally in 30 Luger be converted to 9mm parabellum? If so, what's involved? Simple barrel swap, or more? Thanks,

The 9mm evolved from the .30 Luger so both case heads have the same dimensions. That means the breechface of the .30 Luger will accomodate the 9mm cartridge. Barrel change? Yes, but there is more. New sights are needed since the .30 Luger's trajectory sufficiently differs from the 9mm.

I handled a few .30 Luger BHPs when I was in the firearms industry. I'm trying to remember the differences between the two slides other than sights and the .30 Luger having a rail if memory serves. I can't think of any at the moment.

abninftr, thanks for the information. I was wondering if the outside barrel dimensions vary between the two. If the 30 Luger is narrower, then the slide might be a show stopper for a drop in conversion.

I own a .30 Luger High Power and I bought it with the intention of acquiring a 9mm barrel for it so I would have a two caliber pistol.

But I quickly learned that the .30 HP can't be converted without a lot of work. The .30 barrel is much smaller in diameter than the 9mm barrel. So the 9mm barrel won't fit the bushing. Also the interior dimensions of the .30 slide are different from the 9mm slide.

The only way I could have converted the .30 to 9mm was purchase a complete slide with parts and barrel unit. That purchase would have cost me almost as much as I paid for the .30 HP new in the box back in 1989 ($400).

So I just purchased a NIB Mark III 9mm for $450 and left the .30 alone.

Hello All,

I guess I might be the odd one,but I would like to have a .30 Luger barrel for my 9mm.

Does anyone carry a .30 Luger barrel that is a drop in replacement for a 9mm ?

( Don't mean to hi-jack the thread ) Don

Hello. I know that the factory bbls will not exchange due to different OD's. The only thing I might suggest is to contact Bar-Sto or another aftermarket bbl maker and ask if they would make you one with the same dimensions as the standard 9mm barrel.

Best.
