Just a quick poll on what people think is the best carry pistol. I am a Glock 19 advocate myself though my FM HiPower comes in a close second.

I just think that it depends on one's needs. I have friends who carry N-framed .44 Mags and friends who carry P-3ATs. Depends on what one faces and what one can carry and how one needs to carry it.

I second Erich... and voted for Commander (LW) as it offers the best combo for weight/size/stopping power here, where HP ammo is forbidden to private people. Otherways, a 3" .357 (S&W M65) for individual defense, or a 9 mm (Glock 19) if hi-cap is needed.

Bye.

+2 with Erich,

My main everyday carry is a Polish P-64 9x18, however, around the house inside or out or with shorts and PJ's carry a Beretta 950 in .25cal, other times I carry a M36 .38, so different situations, different dress and weather conditions you might see me with a variety of choices including a Taurus PT1911.45acp or Beretta 92FS 9mm in a shoulder holster, especially if have to be in a high danger area. I practice with all them so I can stay familiar with each.

I like a full size M1911 in 45. My favorite carry gun is the SA lightweight modified to be identical to my two other M1911s, Now having said that, I tend only to do that when I am planning to go out for a while. Most of the time I have been dropping my new Walther PPS 9mm in my pocket to walk the dogs or go to the store.

Howdy Mr. Strider72,

I agree with several responses, that it is just not a cut and dried answer. A lot depends on where I am going, along with other factors. That said, I voted for the CZ75B, since I could only vote once. I could have just of easily checked the box for a P226 Sig or even a 1911.

I just have a marked preference for steel frames, full size pistols, and lean towards SA carry when I have that option. The 75B gives me either option, and when carried it is cocked and locked. Again just a person preference.

But I make a point of practicing with a variety of my handguns, including revolvers now. I want to know if I have to pick one up, I will automatically know how to make it go bang without having to go through a mental manual of arms before hand. Of course it is also a great excuse for me to need to shoot more often too. I keep telling myself that, but now I need to make it happen.

If I am just taking my trash out to the dumpster, I may only have a Kahr K40 on me with a spare mag. But it is rare when I go out otherwise for me not to have at least two handguns on me.

If I could only keep one gun, it would be my HP, but for a knockabout gun for all-around all-day, every day carry, I like the G-19. It's what the .38 snub was for my father' generation - the gun everyone should have at least one of.

Well, I carry a KelTec P32 around with me more than anything on the list. Was thinking of starting a pocket pistol poll after this one ran awhile. The poll wouldn't let me add multiple choice or I would have.

I'm a big HP fan, but I've lost a lot of weight, and I'm a small framed guy anyway, so I find it harder to conceal a full size pistol. These days I'm carrying a 9mm Springfield EMP. Small, light, accurate, dependable with almost 1000 rounds through it now, very easy for me to conceal. Carry in a VM2 holster.

The "best" carry pistol is the one you have with you when you need one. My vote is for a Taurus PT111, which is one of two primary CCW choices I currently have. I'm trying to get familiar with a Glock 23, so that may be a choice in the future.

Probably one can only answer this for himself, as several have posted, each person has his own particular set of circumstances.

For me the first requisite is that it would be reliable (that's not restrictive, many designs are reliable), next it would be something I can carry comfortably since I carry everywhere - including at home - all waking hours. And then next, it has to be the one I shoot the best.

I try a lot of guns on the range and even try carrying some of them as backups for a little while but when the chips are down I always come back to the 5" 1911 in .45 (or occasionally in .45 Super and I would consider 10mm).

Howdy Mr. Wes,

Well sir, if I recall correctly you (and some others) decided the Commander was the perfect 1911 pistol for you. I do recall deciding that a Govt Model was the perfect 1911 for me. So obviously Mr. Jim shares my choice in 1911 lenghts. I suspect there are a few others who do as well.

This is a classic example of why they sell so many Fords and Chevys each week here in the US of A - so folks can drive or shoot/carry exactly what suits them the best.

Grinning. At least I sure thought that was what we decided (grinning).

Hello Mr. Wes and Twoguns,

Well sir, I do have to agree with you on this one:

Gents,

Ahem! Didn't we decide a while back that the Colt Commander was the perfect pistol...
Wes
Folks, Mr. Wes is the person solely responsible for getting me hooked back on Colt Commanders and Mr. Twoguns misdeeds are indeed too numerous to mention here.

I can assure you that between both of them--they've commited me to a couple of "perfect" handgun designs that I did not own previously.

Since "Other" got the most votes it would be educational to see another poll where people could vote for the gun they actually carry.
Would have been nice if more of the "other"pollsters would have let us know their exact "other" choices now wouldn't it?
