Hi there all,

I've heard and seen some rumors posted on the internet and even heard the salesguy at Bassproshop say today that ammunition prices were going up about 20% due to the cost of components going up?

Any truth to the news/rumors?

There is a world wide shortage right now on copper. It is pushing the cost of ANYTHING made with copper up...and unfortunately most ammunition is made with copper jackets. My family works in the HVAC business and right now the cost of copper has increased our wholesale costs nearly 30% on equipment and the like since the beginning of the year..you can imagine the trickle down affect on consumers.

Now's a great time to go back to shooting 9mm! It's still less than half the cost of .45... :)

You can find the same info on the reloading forum. With the price going up, now is a good time to start reloading. Its fun, saves you money and you know just what you are gitting. And, if you stock up on components, you will still have ammo when "the balloon goes up".

not only that, but some ammo is getting hard to find. My gunshop can't get 38spec right now.

Anybody with time and no fear factor could visit Iraq and pick up all the spent brass for resale to help the copper shortage. Dumb idea!!

Another factor in ammo pricing is how many years on the contract the supplier got with the manufacturer. Mirage Technology (also know as Florida bullet) had a 6 year contract with speer so their prices remained the same (15 bucks for a 50rnd box of gold dots all calibers plus shipping of less than 1 buck a box to PA for 10 or more boxes) up until this year. Contract ran out. Prices went up. They still are under most of the big on line suppliers for Gold dots and Lawman.
