Colt marked 1911 .38 Super magazines

Hello and Happy New Year to All:

It has been awhile since I visited. Hope to find all in good spirits and good health.

There was a time when I would have known the answer to my question. However, that time is not now.

I am going to make a gift of a certain .38 Super Colt 1911 to my son in law, the Colonel, United States Army. Now it is not like I have no magazines to include with the pistol. It is just that I find myself without any identical to those as were supplied with this pistol at this particular time.

Last I knew, Colt had ceased to offer their .38 Super magazines in blue and were only supplying them in stainless. Well, I am sure you can figure out those which I am seeking.

Any member have a line on any new blue Colt marked .38 Super magazines? If they were for me; a generic Checkmate or Metalform would fill the bill. However, this pistol is factory archive lettered and the magazine description is noted in the letter, IIRC.

Feel free to say hello even if you have no information of which could be of assistance.

Happy New Year! Are the magazines you are looking for have the Colt pony on them?

Yes, they would. All the modern blue ones I have seen have a M on the baseplate as well. I could not get the thumbnail to orient correctly. My apologies.

Hi chuntaro, You've probably checked all the usual sources. If you haven't located one yet, wonder about a WTB ad on Colt Forum? Collector guys there seem to have every factory variation of anything and everything Colt...

chuntaro, I have absolutely no answer to your question. However, I haven't visited here in awhile but saw your post and thought I'd say hello. Can't believe I've been on this list for about 9 years now. So what's changed for me in those 9 years... knees are killing me, hands/fingers aren't much better, memory sucks (second thing to go and I forgot what the first was) but I'm still teaching / working at the LGS, I run a steel challenge type match in the warmer spring/summer/fall and I managed to squeak out an Expert rating at the IDPA Classifier last year. At 70 years, all n' all not to bad.

Well thanks guys. I was able to trade a friend some of the same magazines but not Colt marked in order to get the gift gun complete and original. I still do not understand Colt factory thinking in only offering replacements in stainless at this time. They previously offered both flavors. Their parts business model has been ah.....different for a couple of years at least.

Les:

I understand. I do not think I will be entering any shoot and move competitions anytime soon. It hurts to think about. I would probably forget the details of the stage half way through and be heavily penalized.
