Davis Leather

A fellow by the name of David Cox bought the rights to the Davis line of holsters and the name. I first heard of the old Gordon Davis holster line about 1983. At that time it was in reference to revolver duty rigs. The first non duty rig I bought was a holster called the omega for a commander. Good holster. Fast forward to today and I received two holsters I ordered in June.

The first is the gunsite omega complete with raven logo and the second is a traditional avenger. I would like to have some boots made from the leather this guy uses.

Those look very nice. Over the years forum member Wichaka has posted pictures of his older Davis Liberty holster on a variety of forums. It is one of my favorites.

Sheriff Jim Wilson has a Liberty, colored just like yours, posted on the 'net, somewhere. However, it looks like Sheriff Wilson has a Government Model stuck in a Commander holster. I've almost thought of calling Mr. Cox and suggesting he ask Sheriff Wilson to either take the picture down or at least show it with the gun properly holstered. It makes it look bad.

Here's the picture Defense Holster Checklist | Sheriff Jim Wilson

I assume your gun doesn't fit in your holster like his does.

You are absolutely correct about his judging from the fit. GM in a CC holster.

Here is the omega I bought for a commander about 1990. I have about three revolver holsters around here somewhere for duty rigs. A couple for 4" k frames, one high ride, one jacket drop and a jacket drop for the L frame. Best revolver holsters I ever carried and I used a bunch over the years. Still be using one if given a choice.

chuntaro,

I forgot to ask, what colors are they?

Is the Omega "Oil Brown" and the Liberty "Dark Oil"?

Davis has some good pictures and they list the colors, but I haven't seen them match the color names to pictures. You kind of have to guess.

I would say the gunsite is tan to light brown. The liberty avenger style I would say is a medium brown like chestnut, not as dark as the Havana brown offered by galco. Somebody should get a rope for the Sheriff.

Your pictures are very good. I can get a good idea about how the colors look from your pictures, but what I'm asking is what does Davis call those colors? In the belts section they list color options as...

Western | Davis Leather Company

Quote:
Natural, Oil Brown, Dark Oil, and Black.
However, they don't have a picture that matches up to the color names. In addition, Oil Brown and Dark Oil are not colors I often see listed by most holster makers. My guess was that since your Omega looks a little darker than what I'd guess would be Natural, it is what Davis calls Oil Brown, and since your Liberty is darker than the Omega I was guessing Dark Oil. Am I correct?

You know, we guys like to tease women about how many pairs of shoes they have, but I think most of us would have that many holsters if we could afford them!

Davis leather is top notch all the way.
A Davis holster should last you several life times.
