NATO ammo?

Greetings,

I have a Belgian surplus Hi Power with an aluminum frame.

I will not shoot +P ammo in it, but I am wondering about the NATO load. I have been given to understand that it is midway between standard pressure & +P.

What is the opinion about using this ammo; not at all? OK with heavy duty recoil spring and/or recoil buffer?

Thanks.

??? ??? ???

NATO ammo?

I haven't found any set NATO standard, but the US Army ammunition data sheet says US M882 9mm ammo should average 31,175 psi with a max pressure of 36,250 psi.

I have seen NATO max quoted as high as 43,000 psi, but with vague or no references, so I don't know if that means anything at all.

SAAMI max for std 9mm is 35,000 psi.

SAAMI max for +P 9mm is 38,500 psi (std +10%).

So US Army specs do put the max pressure somewhere in the middle of SAAMI std and

+P.

It it were mine, I wouldn't shoot anything but std pressure through an alum frame BHP. I would worry about the cam loosening up the frame where it passes through and is pressed in place.

OK, thank you. I too have found much variations in what NATO specs are supposed to be.
