Upgrading Sights on PJK-9HP

A couple of years back I bought a new-in-box FEG PJK-9HP that was still in the factory wrapping. Since then it has proven to be a really fine shooter and a super good-looking gun. It's so nice I have removed the mag dissconnector, changed out the original safety for an ambi one, and I am in the process of getting custom grips for it. One thing I would really like to do now is get rid of the itty bitty "hump and bump" sights on it. Thus begins my quandary.

I've talked to Novak and I can send them the slide alone, and they will mill dovetail slots and replace both front and rear sights with a fixed, three dot sight system for a total investment of $215.00, including shipping. Without having the whole gun they can't guarantee zero, but sending the whole gun runs the cost out the overheads so I can't consider it.

Does anyone have any ideas of a better way to go when it comes to upgrading the sights on this gun?

I suggest sending the slide, have Novak's install the sights and see if they are on (POI = POA) before worrying too much about needing to adjust them. Then, if they do need adjusting, take a 'guess-imate' of how much, take the slide to your friendly neighbourhood gunsmith (assuming one exists) and have him use his sight pusher to shift the rear sight.

I'm going to guess that the sights are going to be spot on when they come back from Novak's. That is, unless you have a 'wonkie' barrel (read shoots off POA), or use a weird grip.

Thanks Paul. I've pretty well decided to go shoot a 15 yard group or two and send the targets to Novak's with the slide and have them do the job. I'll let you know how it goes.

I sent the slide only to Novak last year for some new sights. It's dead on.

The test target, the distance and ammunition used annotated will assist them with the elevation. It should be right upon return. I know the stock slide I sent them stating POI to be correct returned correct with their replacements. It is a mathematical calculation that enables them to correct or keep the POI the same as to elevation. I doubt windage will be an issue. The MK II style like Wags uses will be the most appropriate for your pistol to keep things looking in balance.

I've found this link helpful in the past;

https://www.dawsonprecision.com/Cate...t=SIGHTS+FRONT

It also has that math calculation

I have presumed that FEGS were clones of mkII

What type/size sights are you having installed?

The FEG Hi Powers are generally described as clones of the pre-Mk II BHP. I'm having standard three dot combat style sights like the ones Chuntaro described above installed. They should be on the way back in a day or two. I kind of wanted to splurge and get an adjustable rear sight, but Novack doesn't make one for the BHP. BTW I sent two targets and full distance, POA, and load information with the slide when I sent it in.

The Fegs like JPs are based on the FN Type 73 which predates the MK II. For reasons known only to Novak, they named their pre-MK III sight the MK II Novak. Could have something to do with the Ingliss MK I. The Novak MK II works on all FN pre-MK IIIs except the tangent sight version. It can even be used on the MK III by using a dutchman.
