I'm missing the Berlin wall connection here... maybe I'm just slow today?

I believe the Mauser deal went back to the early 1980s...

Anyway, I agree it is not a likely explanation, but not an impossible one.

The feg hi power was based on the type 73 FN. FEG never adopted any FN revisions. It is doubtful the reverse engineering, tooling up, production, delivery and capture all took place in the same year.

I have an early FEG HP clone, a PJK-9HP. It is a pretty true BHP clone from I can determine. Great shooter also. A pic is attached. If someone is interested in an FEG fake HP, there are a number listed on Gun Broker as fake FN's. Here is a link to one of them.

"the last significant capture of arab weapons was during the 1973 war, some infer that was when Israel captured these guns which would place their manufacture prior to that date"

The more likely capture batch was out of Lebanon ca.1982-84. Israel captured huge stocks of small arms that had been "donated" to various Arab terrorist groups for years, from just about every other Arab country. Once in Lebanon, the original source would be much more difficult to discover.

A FEG is a real hi power. A FEG is just not a real FN Hi Power. Many Fegs are so marked. The Feg marked as a FN will always be a type 73 because that is the one they copied. It will have a five digit serial number preceded by a letter then a space. The font on the left side of the slide will be off but this requires one of each to compare absent pictures of both. The serial number is dispositive. FN never used a space between characters.
