Zastava M70A 9mm - $219

When's the last time you saw a decently made 9mm in a proven design for $219? I couldn't resist and bought one. I'll pick it up Thursday. I got it out the door for $250.76. Here's the link:

JayPee, Christmas must be right around the corner!! Is this one of the famous (Tokarev) Pistols, Chris Stevens is always talking about? Wonder if they would take a order over the phone?
Just saw the "We Can only ship Inside the U.S.A. We Do Not Export". I guess i'm out of luck!!
Scott

Hawaii isn't outside the USA (technically), so it wouldn't be an export. Now it might cost you more for shipping....

I placed my order over the telephone, Scott. These are not C&R pistols, so you will have to have it shipped to an FFL dealer near you. They will have to have a copy of the FFL dealer's FFL, which you can fax or email to them. They can tell you just what the process is on their 800 line. I live up the road from Widener's so I didn't have to have it shipped to an FFL - they are one and I'm picking it up at their warehouse. 1-800-615-3006 is their number. Here's what their site says about shipping to Alaska and Hawaii: "SALES TO ALASKA AND HAWAII: We gladly ship Non-Restricted items directly to these states. Restricted Items such as Ammuniton and Haz-Mat must go through a Freight Forwarding Company. It is the customers' responsibility to arrange this and provide us the delivery address of the forwarding company of choice. If you have questions Please call us first before ordering."

Yes, this is an updated version of the Tokarev TT33 in which the Zastava firm extended the grip frame by one round to accommodate a 9 round magazine instead of the TT's 8 round magazine. They also incorporated a very effective slide-mounted safety (the TT33 had no safety, although imported TT's have to have one), and a magazine disconnector. This gun is also made in 7.62x25 caliber and is known as the Zastava M57, and usually costs more than the M70A. The real appeal of this gun is its common caliber - 9mm.

JayPee,

I just read the information concerning this handgun in the ad. Is this pistol a true blowback 9mm handgun? If so, I would expect significant recoil, but perhaps I am incorrect....it happens quite often with me. I own/shoot .380cal blowback pistols(PPk/S, etc) and they have a more significant recoil than a locked breach .380 pistol like the P3AT and LCP. I am just curious, as I have always thought that one of these might be fun to own/shoot.

Gosh no, Doc. They have the Colt/Browning locking system with locking lugs in the roof of the slide and corresponding lugs on the barrel - like the BHP. If it was a 9mm blowback I and my arthritic hands would run screaming from the room. This video should show you what the recoil is like. It is supposed to be a pretty soft shooting pistol.

Hello JayPee and Doc,

Right you are Jer. I have the Romanian TT-33 and I wouldn't want attempt to fire the small high velocity/high pressure 7.62 x 25 round out of a "straight blow back" designed firearm. You might as well smack your hand with a ballpein hammer to get the same effect.

Chris

Thank you Jaypee,
I will give them a call tomorrow. I have a LGS use all the time. I can fax them the FFL. I have bought most of my pistols on line. When you include the shipping to Hawaii, it is still cheaper than buying on Island. I like the M70A 9mm it will be just right. Thank you again,
Scott

My pleasure, Scott. I'm picking mine up today and I'll try to give a small report on it in a day or two. If you'll go onto You Tube and type in Zastava M70a, there are a bunch of fairly thorough evaluations of the gun. FWIW

Thanx JP for the info. I went back to the ad, and it has been changed, and they removed the "blow-back" part, and added "free recoil of the slide" instead, which in not correct either if it is a locked breach system. I couldn't believe that it was a true blow-back operation, and that is why I had to ask. My hand/wrist would not be at all interested in that setup when firing a 9mm round. Thanx, again.
