More CZ-82s at AIM Surplus.

They just got another batch of the 9x18 version in on Wednesday. I had been up there a week or so previously and they were down to their last one from the previous shipment. It was truly an ugly puppy, so I passed on it.

Wanted to give you guys a heads up on the new arrivals, but not so early that you'd ace me out by phone.

Picked up one of the nicer ones as listed above this a.m. (AIM also has some fuglier versions for $20 less) and was off to a pal's nearby property for a test drive. Happy to report 100% reliability, and I was wearing out a steel plate at 10 yards or so as fast as I could pull the trigger!

Brian,

Now that you have both CZ83 & CZ82, perhaps you can do the side by side comparison. Do you intend to carry the 82? I toted my 83 around for about a month, finally busted a .38 back out of the safe but I haven't put the CZ back in yet. It is big and heavy (especially for a .32) but it is just such a nice pistol. The 9x18 is actually a REAL caliber. I'm not sure if I'm trying to talk myself into or out of calling up my FFL and getting one on the way.

The wife is out of town...

The '82 will see some carry duty, especially in the summer. First I will chrono the Hornady and CorBon 9x18 jhp offerings to see how fast they're being pushed by this pistol.

I cannot talk myself into toting the weak sister .32 acp CZ 83. As mentioned previously, it was purchased mainly because I have a mountain of free fodder in that caliber to shoot up in the next thirty or so years.

Having noted Stephen Camp's comment on his website about the Makarov being designed for use with steel cased 9X18, can the same be said for the CZ-82? About the only cheap ammo anymore in my part of the country is the steel-cased 9X18, and I really like the look and feel of the CZ but don't want to waste my money if that ammo is going to destroy the gun.

Hello, sir. This is only an assumption but I strongly believe that in Europe and especially the former Iron Curtain ones, the most prevalent ammunition in 9x18mm used steel cases. For that reason, I suspect (but cannot say with certainty) that such firearms as the FEG and CZ that are originally chambered in 9x18mm, are probably OK with steel case ammunition. With the Makarov, each round that chambers does so with the extractor snapping over the rim where the CZ does not. Therefore, with the CZ, I would chamber from the magazine. (I do this with all of my autos including Makarovs but would certainly do it with the CZ's rather than forcing the steel extractor to smack and jump over the steel rim of such ammunition.)

Keep in mind that this answer is only supposition based upon what I think to be a logical progression...........but I could be wrong.

I do not own a CZ in 9x18mm Makarov but from what I've read on the Internet and from what I've seen at the firing range from those who do, extractor breakage doesn't seem a common thing with the CZ.

Best and good luck.

Thank you Mr. Camp for such a prompt and thorough response. I would never have considered the issue of how the round chambers relative to the extractor. I think I'm going to order one.

Hello. Again, I am just offering what I believe to be true but it does seem logical. I couple that with the overall satisfaction I've had with several CZ pistols (and rifles) and I honestly believe you will wind up with a problem-free shooter.

Best and good luck.

Received the CZ-82 with two mags, holster, etc. from AIM. Absolutely outstanding package for the price. I also ordered some of the Silver Bear zinc plated steel cased ammo in 9X18 and already had a supply of the steel cased Wolf ammo on hand that I shot out of a Makarov I used to own. Do you suppose that zinc plating lessens the negative effects the steel cases have on extractors? The weapon is in such fine condition I am hesitant to do anything that would risk damaging it.
