Well, This is Just Nifty! A Bright Idea!

Hi All,

I'm not exactly sure where to put this as it has so many applications.

This morning I opened a box of Rice Crispies. I'm not really a fan of Rice Crispies, but since I'm eating healthy my friend who works at the stop'n'rob won't sell me donuts. She says they're bad for me and, further, she can refuse me service. Anyway... I found this thing:

It's an LED flashlight that hooks over your ear like a cellphone earpiece. True, it has Shrek on it, but still... besides, Shrek is cool.

Thus far I've used it to walk into the living room without turning on the overhead fluoresents, and used it, in conjuntion with Dad's old reading glasses, to take a look at some small gun parts.

The downside is that it glows green. I looked at Dad and informed him that I'm Joshootist of Borg ::)

I got to looking around on the 'net, and sure 'nuff, these things seem to be popular:

And a review:

Years back I tried something similar which fit over your ears and nose like glasses. It used regular bulbs, a couple AA batteries, was heavy, uncomfortable, cumbersome, and used batteries very quickly. These don't seem to do this.

I figure once my Shreck light wears out I'll be buying myself a better quality ear light.

They come out with the dangest things....

Lol.

Josh, you found one, too?

So did I, and thought the same thing; Mine's orange, and came out of some frosted flakes.

This beats the heck out of a Harries hold, or a gun-mounted light, either one.

Yeah, if the Bad Guy doesn't decide to "draw a bead" between those two little lights walking down the alley towards him.

If you've got a gun-mounted light in your sighting plane, then all he has to do is aim at it.

Lighting on any gun has extremely limited uses. It's just that where having a light in such a situation is useful, this is superior.

Hey, um, Chubby, these things are not nearly powerful enough to use as room clearing devices. Thus far I've found them to be, at best, good at lighting up the sights on a gun with no night sights available (my Rommy training rifle is one example) or doing gunsmith work.

I would very much hesitate to use this, or any similar light, in a tactical role. The gun mounted lights and and handheld Surefires and such are a much better choice for this type of work.

I'm not talking about using the Shrek light for room clearing. I'm talking about the concept. And like I said, gun-mounted lights, lights on your head, or any other kind of light, is a good way to give away your position in a fight. They have very limited uses. however, in a situation where one would be useful, I'd prefer one that automatically looked where I turned my head.
