Need handgun purchase ideas

Lets see thier had been breakins my neighborhood and the increases in crime in my city and because of the hours I work I have started to carry with me when ever I leave the house. I currently have a 1911 and and a xd9. Well because the wife only knows how to use the xd I have taken to carrying the 1911. I want something lighter and smaller for concealed carry as I hope to try to get my CCW before the year is out.

Give me some ideas for something safe to carry concealed, smaller and lighter then either my xd or my 1911 and under $300.

as far as carying without a permit, I would not suggest it. I don't know the law where you are, but in Texas, if you are illegally carrying a a weapon, the justification defense is not allowed. Stated simply, If you don't have a permit and use your gun in a defensive situation, you will be convicted of aggravated assault or murder. Most states are similar.

My suggestion would be a used Smith and Wesson revolver. You can find a used one in very nice shape for less than $300.

If you are looking for something very easy to conceal, a J frame.

If you are willing to wear an untucked shirt, you can easily upgrade to and conceal a 3" or 4" K frame, such as a model 10 or 64 (fixed sight .38) Model 15 or 67 (adjustable sight .38 spl), a model 13 or 65 (fixed sight .357 magnum) or a model 19 or 66 (adjustable sight .357 magnum).

I find that my 4" model 10 and my 4" model 66 are both verry easy to conceal is they have relatively small stocks. I use stock service stocks with a tyler grip adaptor on the m10 and pacmayr compac professionals on the 66.

I cannot thing of a good, reliable enough for carry, $300 auto. The closest I can think of are the XD you already have and a springfield milspec (under $500) a used Glock (~$400) or a CDNN Hi Power (~450 once shipped). The certified pre owned Sigs are an excellent deal too.

Hi beakersloco,

Here is a link to North Carolina's concealed carry laws and the general state laws about carrying firearms:

I carry a S&W 642-2 most of the time. It is the best balance of concealment, caliber and handling for me. They can be found "used" in your price range.

If you like autos, think about a Makarov or a KelTec. FIRST get your permit.

Hi Neighbor! Here in Richmond, VA my general dog walking gun is a Glock 26 9mm in a pocket holster. Naturally a reload is in the other pocket. It is a bit thick but I could not get the Kahr Poly 9 to work reliably. I retired an old J-Frame only because it was harder to shoot really well.

Hopefully before the year is out I intend to have a CCW my problem is that Im normally working when the classes are held or my job has me oncall and the weekends I try to do stuff when Im on call usually dont go well.

. I know at a local shooting club or rent at a range.

Thanks for the responses I will inquire of a couple of friends that shoot at a local club if they or anyone they know have any of the above .

Look at the Kahr line of firearms. They're a little pricy but will give you the size, weight, and caliber that you may be looking for.
