My son is now in the Coast Guard.

Well it's official. Our son Marcus was sworn into the U.S. Coast Guard this morning. He ships out for recruit training at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, New Jersey on the 29th of August. His mother and I are very proud of him. This is something that he wanted and he's done it on his own without having to be poked and prodded by us. After the ceremony his recruiter told us that when he first met Marcus several months ago there were many kids in the group and Marcus is the only one to have followed through. He graduates from high school this May and he doesn't feel ready for college just yet. He wants to get out of Idaho and see some of the world and earn his own keep. HE figures the Coast Guard is the way to do it. As I said we're very proud of him.

Thanks. We have Marcus and his older sister. It's interesting to see them moving out into their adult lives. So far so good.

It sounds as though your son is wise beyond his years. He will mature in the Coast Guard. A good choice.

Congratulations. A very good use of his youth and I'm sure he will benefit from it far beyond the years he serves. Best wishes to him and you both.

Congratulations to your son. I worked with the puddle pirates on a couple of occasions during my Navy days. They do far more than most people realize.
