New rifle on the way (HERE!)

In fact, I'm about to go check the tracking information to see how far it's gotten. It should be at my dealer's tomorrow or Friday.

It's a brand spanking new Steyr-AUG A3, caliber .223/5.56 NATO.

I'll post photos this weekend, and (hopefully) a bare bones range report. I haven't decided what sights to install, but right now it's between the Eotech 517 and the Trijicon Reflex.

Hello Leland,

Well congratulations! I can't wait to hear how you like the initial impressions of this world re known bull pup designed rifle.

And then, followed by a detailed range report which I hope that you will share with us!

Regardless, I can't wait to see some of your expert photography and first impressions of the Steyr-AUG A3!

Chris

Leland,

Enjoy your new Aug. Interesting weapon, but never really caught on.

I'll stick with my AR style platforms. I like the ergonomics better.

I have a Steyr Scout and it is amazingly accurate even with me shooting it! The design is innovative and in your AUG the technology well tested. The mags may be pricey so stock up when you can. I need to get a couple more for my SSR.

Wow! Congratulations! That would be a lot of fun!

I was surprised to see an actual Steyr-made AUG instead of the U.S.-made versions. Certainly those AUGs are used worldwide by a good many nations... Australia, NZ, various users in the Mid East and so on. The tiny nation Uruguay just adopted it to replace their aging inventory of FALs after toying with the [budget conscious] idea of 5.56mm Kalashnikovs...

Hope to see a range report, and maybe a comparison with the SIG 556 that a number of y'all have too...

Hope your turns out like my old pre 89 model. Mine is deadly accurate and reliable as a Rolex. I semi retired mine some years ago when I decided it would be my go-to 5.56 if things ever got real bad. I was lucky enough to have got a bunch of spare parts and a couple dozen mags with mine when I bought it over twenty years ago. Will yours use AR mags? CDNN has or had the conversion lower, since I had plenty mags, I never considered buying one. I can't decide whether I prefer mine with the 20" barrel or the 16" As for your sight choice, I own an EoTech but think I'd prefer a Reflex since it has no batteries/electronics to go bad. I've heard Aimpoint sights are tougher built and use far less battery juice than EoT's.

LelandRay,

It's got to be a conspiracy. Twoguns has had his new hard drive re-routed and it will be delivered nest Tuesday.

Me? I just ordered parts from Brownells vial Parcel Post and they got here in four days... Please don't hate me.

You've got to be chomping at the bit. Really want to read your range report.

I handled a new A3 at the toy store today while waiting for my new Kimber to come out of the back room.

The owner's manual I downloaded said to be careful how one dealt with the charging handle, else one might cut the crap out of one's fingers on the Picatinny rails.

One did, but the bleeding stopped in an hour or so.
