7.62x39mm Wound In Hog *Graphic*

Hello,

I found this picture on another forum:

It's claimed that two fists can be fit into the exit wound.

This is Ulyanovsk HP ammo.

Thoughts? Is this typical 7.62x39 performance?

I've not found much in the way of terminal performance of this round.

Thanks,

Josh <><

Hello Josh & Thanks for the photo! That's quite a hole to say the least.

The Russians hunt & kill a lot of Vepr Hogs with the 7.62x39, and I've always felt very secure with the cartridge and have always kinda viewed it as a .308 "short", plus it penetrates like a mule on viagra!

I've shot a lot of feral hogs with otsixes, .270's, 7x57's and 6.5x55's. I don't see why a 7.62x39 wouldn't do this kind of damage, especially if it hit a bone. I've seen hogs hit with 140 grain 6.5x55 bullets loaded down to around 2,500 fps hit a bone and blow an entire front quarter off of these animals. I think it's probably authentic, Josh.

Thanks gents.

I guess I'm too used to handgun wounds. Never saw this kind of damage on a deer from a 12 gauge slug either.

I guess the lack of recoil of the 7.62x39 sorta' had me fooled a bit. I'd expect this here from a heavy American 7.62 soft point, not a mid-range cartridge.

I guess I'm still learning about rifles.
