Wow. Look at that beauty.

I was good friends with a U.S.S. Arizona survivor.
Here is a snippet from an interview with him that was transcribed:
"He was at Pearl Harbor at the beginning of the hostilities that started World War II and he was aboard the U.S.S. Arizona, which was one of the ships that was on Battleship Row in Pearl Harbor, just off . . . or moored up against Ford Island. After the . . . the incident at ar-. . . at the Arizona he went to the U.S.S. Craven, a destroyer, and was at the battle of Midway. And then he went to the U.S.S. Calk, another destroyer, and later he went to the U.S.S. Dehaven and saw a lot of action at the invasion of Leyte and Okinawa and off Japan . . . the mainland of Japan, where he . . . his ship was involved with kamikaze attacks and so fort"

One of my dear friends at work is David Van Valkenburgh. He had a detailed schematic of the USS Arizona so I told him about my friend Jim. He then pointed out that his grandfather was the Captain.

Another beautiful pistol Mr. Holbrook. The Texas is a fine looking old girl but she is in need of major work. Hope people will contribute to keep her afloat.

Hello John,

Do you, by any chance, ever attend Gun shows in Washington State?

Funny you should ask. I lived in Bellingham for 15 years until moving to Missoula, MT last April. I still attend the Spokane show and the WAC show in Puyallup in Oct...

A bit of Texas history. After the war in 1948 if I remember, the Texas was scheduled to be scrapped. The school children of Texas, including me and my sister, collected enough money to buy her and have her returned to Texas.... I have been aboard her many times!!!!

She is still by the San Jacinto monument, quietly and elegantly at ther berth. Her setting is so much more dignified than other ships.
