Anyone have a GP100, 3" .357?

Found one, used, today in a local shop. Seems like a nice gun, being more robust than a 3" 65 Smith, and not much heavier. Decent DA pull, could be lighter. Usual Ruger razor sharp chamber mouths on the cylinder. Some light fettling and it would be a good carry piece?

Well, goes to show you I haven't read everything on this lengthy site!

The revolver is "interesting." While I am generally in favor of flat shooting magnums to be equipped with adjustable sights, I'm in agreement with you regarding its ruggedness and just some slight mods to improve the trigger action. I too would leave the grips alone, which is rare, but they are nearly ideally shaped for general usage, allow my size 9 hand to manipulate the trigger well, and are smooth and should not print. Also, the Ruger's wide recoil shoulder spreads that pulse out in the web of your hand very well, and that somewhat problematic trigger is at least pretty smooth and consistent, unlike its father, the Security Six/Speed Six, which stacked notably in every stock example I've ever handled.

It prestacks well for those who would shoot a revolver DA that way too.

A good solid buy it seems. I'm not sure that a full shroud and the additional weight buys much; much more and one would be better off with the P-35 or the Lt. Commander.

Anyone have a GP100, 3" .357?

A friend and I both bought 3" GP's a couple years ago when there was an abundance on the market, heard they were being brought back from Canada. Ours are DAO, spurless hammers, short underlug, came with a police type holster and a Safariland speedloader. We got ours under $250, excellent revolvers, both.

I favor the .357 Magnum as a defensive cartridge and carry a 3" GP100 that I picked up.

I had it "modified" a little bit to suit me. It wears a Hi-Viz type front sight dialed in to my carry load, has been "de-horned" and the hammer is "bobbed'. An "action job" was done with a mainspring replacement.

All in all, I think the 3" GP100 is the best carry gun in .357 Magnum going today. My SP101 with it's 2 1/4" Barrel does duty as a BUG.

Anyone have a GP100, 3" .357?

About a year ago, a buddy of mine came across 3 of them, re-imported back into the USA. He called me, knowing that I was a lover of the Ruger revolvers. I went over and picked the best of the three. It looked new and was a factory DAO unit, sold to the Canadian Police Forces, according to the S/N investigation. I shot a box of shells through it and realized I had a keeper. I promptly sent it off to Mr. Morganti at Gemini Customs & here is the result.

1911 Dave,

Sir, I did some looking and found one for you at Gunbroker. It took twenty-five pages of just Ruger Firearms to find one.

Send me a PM and I'll send you the link if you are interested.
