Whats your best 45 colt load?

I like the powerfull easy to to shoot 8-8.5grs of Unique under a 250 swc or flat-tip cowboy bullet. I shoot older reg. frame S.A. designs. But in the blackhawk Ruger heavy loads like 255swc 10.5 grs of Unique. And here you can go 300gr. and 2400-110-Bluedot. But my favorite is the 8-8.5 Unique with the 250gr. Easy to shoot and as powerfull as 45 acp ball or a tad more.

My favorite in the heavy Vaqueros and Blackhawks is 15gr 2400 under a 260gr Barnes JHP bullet for a booked velocity of 1050fps. Very accurate performer. Do not use this load in a newer lighter Vaquero or any Peacemakers/clones.

My data is from Speer #11 manual.

Me too. That load does everything I've ever demanded of the round.

A friend just gave me 8# of Red Dot, and I like 6.5 grains of it under a 250 grain Hornady lead bullet.

I lost most of my loading data in Ivan, but one I'll always remember is 34grs of FFF under a 255gr Keith bullet.

Made about 900 FPS as I recall.

The original loading was 40grs but that was in balloon-head cases.

Regards,

Pat

My ww cast 255 Kieth bullet over XX grs Univ Clays. Pretty close to a BP load, will have to do the real thing someday, pff.
For a "thumper" load put 21 grs of WW296 under a Hornady 300 gr XTP and show the 44mag fans how it's done.

Just noticed that my Clays load is over max in the Lyman manual so try it @ your own risk. Well under max in other manuals and in my Ruger. I thought it was a pretty mild load.

I'm boring too. I also shoot 8.5 grains of Unique with 250-255 grain lead bullets from my Colt New Service. Velocity is 844 fps. Really, such a load will accomplish much of what a handgun can reasonably be called upon to do.
