I have loaded nickel pistol cases many many times. I have 20 .308 nickel rifle cases that i load only for deer season. I carry them in a nylon shell carrier band on the butt of my Handi Rifle. Nickel gives better weather durability and less chance of corrosion starting, plus they are cleaner, and slicker loading and unloading after firing. I use brass cases for target shooting and all around plinking, simply because nickel rifle cases are less prevalent than nickel pistol cases. As far as ease of reloading, the only time nickel becomes a mess is if you forget to lube a case going into a steel die.

I used mixed .38 brass early in my PPC career and some were nickel. I wore the nickel off more than a few of them. They seemed to split a bit sooner but they would last at least 3-5 loadings and the best brass seldom went past 10. I used carbide dies and IIRC carbide is harder than nickel so I doubt my dies were damaged.

Yes they are more brittle from the plating process, but just as strong. When they split throw them away. A easy process. I have some Military nickel from the 1970-80,s I still reload. Seems about 1% split every 100 rds or so.
