Hot Israeli Ammo????

I have my Beloved Hi-Power as one of my most Prized possessions. Up to now,i have only shot military ball 115 grainers. I mail ordered some Israeli 9mm that the boxes said to shoot in SMG's. Is it too hot for my Hi-power,can i ruin my barrel and make slide to frame sloppy? Can my way older Hi-power take it?

I'll weigh in until the guys who really know are up ( it's not quite dawn in the EST zone).

DON'T shoot it until you do more research. Some HP experts counsel against using +P ammo in older guns as opposed to the newer frame models. Everything I've read leads me to believe that the ammo you're discussing is well past +P pressure levels.

Apparently the UZI needs stout pressure to function reliably and the Israelis issued SMG-only ammo for it, as well as specific ammo for pistols.

Suggest you do a search for "Israeli 9mm pressure" and you'll find a lot of stuff;at

least one guy says he saw an old HP let go after 3 rounds of this stuff.

Anyway, if it is one of your prized guns, I recommend against it.

I think this is a classic "better safe than sorry" case.

Brownfeather;

Go about 4 topics down on this forum and you'll see a link to an essay on the HP.

Give it a read and also be sure to read the footnotes/comments.

Same answer as my earlier, though.

That stuff is beyond +P, probably more like +P+. While your HP could stand a bit of it without any undue wear, why bother. In addition, it's corrosive. You could use it in a pinch, but if any other ammo is available, I'd shelve the Uzi ammo for some other use. Perfect for use in an Uzi, MP5, HiPoint 995, CX4, etc.

Thanks, for the info on Hot ammo. I read the article regarding the damaging effect that SMG ammo has on the Bhp. I appreciate the feedback.

Hot Israeli Ammo????

We were issued Isreali Black Tip 9mm ammo for some off brand submachine guns our State Police agency toyed with, a Euro-brand with lots of tiny spring issues. We dumped the soon after. All the ammo they tried to shoot up for practice/qualification. Not! That stuff was hot! It made a G17 go full auto on the range and messed up some Berettas. Best thing I got out of it was great 9mm brass to reload. Corrosion? Can't say-we made our agts clean weapons 2X a month even if not fired.

Hot Israeli Ammo????

Hello Fellow Shooters. I investigated the 9x19mm ammo i commented on earlier. I found that i have very hot ammo made by Hirtenberger from Austria. There were several blogs on this ammo, and they strongly urged not to shoot this out of pistols. it was made to shoot out of SMG-Mp5's,Sterlings,Mac 11/9's,Uzi's.

I have approx 300+ rounds of this stuff and wish to trade for ammo that i could use in my BHP,or for $$$ . Read :Source BATF Bulletin,Nov7,1996-American Rifleman,Jan1997;page6 ,IAAjournal,Jan./Feb.1997;page4-HP 90,91,OR 92 L7a1,cross within a circle

As far as I know, Hirtenberger (sp?) ammo is safe for Glocks. I wouldn't shoot it in a classic HiPower.
