S&W 908 9mm Compact

ccwman,

The S&W 908 cost me $350 OTD at my local dealers and it was LNIB, I'd call it 97% +. I like it better than the 3913 because it doesn't have the ambidextrous safety, it just something else that might snag on clothing.

S&W 908 9mm Compact

Hello Papabear,

I owned a 410 and 457 in the same series.

Both were excellent semi-autos, but I had need to own a SIG and both have long disappeared from my collection.

Best,

Chris

Thanks for the information, Chris and Papabear. Indulge me please once again. How is the trigger pull for that first DA shot? Does it compare favorably with that of a K-frame revolver? Also can one begin the DA pull and then use the left thumb to put it into SA mode. I know that this procedure, if possible, is prone to accidents. Just wondering. --c p. s. Hope the arm fracture comment was in jest!

Howdy Mr. Corky,

Not either Mr. Chris or Mr. Papabear, but I will chime in here for you on that last one.

For about 10 years, my agency's issued weapon was a 6906, which is essentially this weapon with a double row mag. Plus ex number 2 carried a 3913 I got for her when we were moving to south FL.

The 6906 and 3913 hammers both had grooves cut into the top of the hammer, so that you could carefully move the hammer to the rear if necessary. As you noted, this is not the safest of practices, but that aside, the short answer would be yes sir, you could use your left thumb to bring the hammer into single action.

I will also add that the first DA shot on the 6906s that I maintained for the agency, and the 3913, did have nice DA pulls. It might have a nicer DA pull than you might be expecting. If I compared it to a Smith revolver DA pull, I would say they were equal - only if the revolver had been smoothed up a bit. At least from memory that would be my best comparison for you.

Hope these help a bit in your questions.

Also, sadly Mr. Papabear was not being funny, he was being serious in his comment about his wife's injury. We all wish her a full and speedy recovery.

Papa, I'm wondering if you ever made a decision on your holster for your 908. I bought a 3913LS (yes it even says Lady Smith on the slide), this weekend and it's a beautiful gun. I am looking for leather for it now and I'm wondering if you found anything.

Thanks!
