SIG P226 PROBLEMS - HD Video

This is a shooting demonstration of the Sig Sauer P226, and, unfortunately, also a look at the issues this pistol has been having. Fail to feeds, and front sight is off. I know the Sig P226 is a great pistol. My friend, who loaned me this pistol, and I, are trying to get to the bottom of why he keeps having problems with this P226

Amsdorf,

Sorry you guys are having issues. You didn't say what ammo your shooting, what magazines were used, or anything else to help. Please provide some of that information and we may be able to help.

Both myself and Twoguns(former member/retired LE) are Sig fans. I own two P226's. An "old school" German with the folded slide in 9mm and a P226 Elite in .357 Sig. BOTH have been flawless in their performance. In fact, I have six Sig pistols and have yet to have a stoppage in any of them...

There is one guy who is making Sig videos and badmouthing everything Sig Sells on the internet. Don't believe everything you see or hear there.

Everyone produces a bad pistol every now and then. I'd change ammo, rebuild or buy a couple NEW Sig or Mec-Gar P226 mags in the appropriate caliber, and clean/lube the weapon properly to see if that solves your issues.

The front sight sounds like a return to the factory issue.

Was this a new or a well used pistol?

Thanks again for your contributions to the forum.

Magazine: What came with the Sig.
Ammo: You name it, every hardball it has shot has not run smoothly, and consistently.

I am not familiar with the "Sig bad mouther" ... not relevant.

The weapon has been cleaned and lubed, very meticulously and very properly.

It is a brand new pistol.

Oh No

I has a Sig 226 back in the 80s that would't even feed ball reliably.
Somebody else wanted it, warts and all, and I was unable to unload it.

Since I have had an 80s vintage Sig 220 .45 ACP and a 229 40 S&W. They have been perfection.

Sig has had a lot of QC problems lately and their reputation has suffered. Their huge DHS contract did not do their rep any good amongst those in the know, but I don't know how much the general public learned about that. The Air Marshal's 250 contract was even worse. That got a lot of publicity when the FAMs decided to ditch the whole lot.

It seems to me that for the most part Sig does OK when they flow at normal production rates, but when they try to make a big bunch of anything in a short period of time for the government Sig really screws the pooch.

In retrospect, perhaps moving their whole operation way up to the North Woods where they had to recruit a bunch of squirrel eaters out of the hills to put on shoes and work indoors wasn't such a great idea.

Paul,

I played it back a few times. Is the last round not being ejected? Might need the extractor adjusted.

The jamming is a mystery to me, as my 9mm W. German P226 will feed anything from cheap lead reloads to whatever premium ammo.

The thought that a sight flew off a Sig seems equally mysterious to me, as I had to get a special sight pusher to move a sight after peening a punch.

How the mighty have fallen.

Never had a jam with dozen's Sigs and decades of use. The most reliable pistols I have ever used bare none. They replaced the aging Browning High=powers in service.

Looks like you or your friend should get some new mags.

I think I'd start by trying shooting the gun using some known good magazines... if it still causes problems you might want to try a new recoil spring and see if that helps...

The ejector or extractor could be marginal as well, but those are issues for an armorer.

Given it is a new gun, you might want to call SIG service dept. and get them to take it back for a check up.

FWIW
