Hello. Only what I saw on an episode of "Future Weapons." If I remember correctly there is no cartridge case and the rounds are fired
via electricity. Their 9mm equivalent was something like a million shots per minute from a multiple barrel weapon. Others were a bit "slower" but still fired at an incredible rate.

Best.

Mr. Camp and others,

"Future Weapons" is where I learned about this technology also. Wow, a million rounds a minute is a lot of lead going someplace fast. I am not interested in owning one of these weapons, but was wondering if anyone had any idea how long it will take for this technology to trickle down to the general public.

Hmmmm. A million rounds a minute. How many mules would it take to haul one minutes worth if each round weighed.....ozs. per round & the relative humidity was ....% at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level with a NW wind at 6 knots??
Awww, shucks, I get a splitting headache when I try to do math while I'm hiding under the outhouse. Also get sorta sick to my stomach when I realize tax money is being spent on the absurd--in the name of research?
Time to hoist the NC confederate battle flag again & wave Ernesto good bye.

If Stalone or Schwartzeneger use one in a film, firing from the shoulder of course, everyone will want one!
Abn, I would have sworn I read something about those more than 5 or 6 years ago, more like 10+. Of course I can't remember where. Possible an old Military Technology magazine.

I have also seen these on tv and in print. The idea behind the tecnology is that there is no ejection required since there is no spent case. This allows a huge increase incyclic rate since there is no need for a bolt or firing mechanism to reciprocate. Also, rounds can be stacked one behind another in the same tube and electrically sequenced, and multiple barrels, say 100 or morestacked into a box shape. Looking from the front it woul resemble a honeycomb, perhaps 12" x 12". Then put 10 rds in each tube. This would creat a 1000 rd burst in a fraction of a second. The intended application here issomething like an anti aircraft weapon, a hekicopter mounted wpn for gunship support, or a claymore like effect(with much greater range) for anti personnel or perimeter defense. In an individual weapon system, the cyclic rate is significantly increased as is reliabilty, as the only moving part is magazine and feed mechanism. Weight is significantly reduced as there is no brass case on the ammo, and there is no brass left behind, useful in certain situations. none of the systems are actually intended to fire a million rounds at once, just as an MP5 is not actaully intended to fire 1000 rds in a minute. It is an expression of rate, not quantity of fire. You might well though, see an anti aircraft weapon that would fire tens of thousands of rounds in a burst. Sounds great to me.

I am enlightened-Thanks for a clear explanation even I can grasp. :) Doesn't rate (rounds/second) translate into quantity--weight (force) 'dumped' on an object?
Just wondering out loud after returning home from an "invasive procedure" done by a member of another profession I know nothing about. Regards, G>M>F>
