What's your favorite "nightstand" gun?

Hi there,

I've noticed among some of the members that it isn't always true that their favorite handgun is not alway's their favorite nightstand gun for a variety of reason's.

What is your favorite nightstand gun?

Chris

What's your favorite "nightstand" gun?

This is my bed buddy gun outfit.

I made it one afternoon out of scraps. A piece of 16x 20 x .25 Plexiglas screwed to a 1/2 inch pine board (drill the plexi first and round off the sharp corners). Covered the board with a carpet scrap contact glued and screwed to board. Cut up an old belt for support of the holster and flashlight. Had an old Galco slide holster that will hold everything from a M49 S&W to my CZ 97B.

Attached a Velcro hook strip to it to hold my cell phone. I believe the flashlight is a Streamlight Twin 3 that always stays there.

Since there's no kids (or ex-wives) in the house I don't worry about that. My dogs have been through gun safety courses so I don't worry about them either.

When the bed is made, it covers the whole outfit and is not noticeable.

I laid down in the bed and figured out where to place it. I added a Velcro hook strip to the bed-frame so it stays in place.

Whatever I carry that day is usually the gun that goes in the bed holster when I get home.

Regards,

Steve

I don't have a nightstand piece per se. Just a cell phone and charger and books on it.

I voted shotgun: I keep it "cruiser ready" in my safe with the door open. It is about as close to my bed as my nightstand, but on the other side away from the bedroom door.

To keep things simple, I've got a pair of shoes, my fire extinguisher, and the loaded revolver in the same general spot, and the flash-light I've got is attached to a Rem. 870. I have a 9mm carbine too, but I don't have a light or optics for it yet so it isn't exactly set up for low-light usage. (I wear eye glasses, so I'm more inclined to go for the shotgun I guess...)

If I had to do things over again I'd get the 20-gauge Scattergun tech. Rem. 870: it has a 20-in. barrel, and a 12 7/8" l.o.p. buttstock. As it happened, I modified a stock 12-ga. Rem. 870 Express by adding a Mossberg-mfr 18 1/2" barrel, a side-saddle shotshell holder, a light, and a short l.o.p. stock.

Sgphoto: with your ingenuity and inventiveness, I hope you've taken out a patent on that set up! You should consider going into business with such practical innovations.

12/19 update: The 9mm carbine has a Burris 3-moa red dot sight now. So it is loaded in the safe alongside the Rem 870 (#1 buck) and a couple revolvers: Ruger SP101 (3-in. loaded w/ 158gr. lswhp +P) and my S&W Bodyguard Airweight (135gr. gdhp +P). I'm still more inclined to go for the scattergun.

At this time this FN 5.7 is the only pistol I have with a rail to mount the laser/light, so it lays on the top of the night stand. Then there's a laser equipped Kimber in the drawer.

But if I hear something, this is within arm's reach and would handle just about anything inside or out, day or night. :)

My nightstand gun is a Model 24. I am confident in my ability to shoot this gun well under any conditions. I am utterly confident in the gun's ability to perform under any conditions. If it was my carry piece that day, it goes back on the nightstand. If not, then it remains there.

Hi Larry,

I believe that it is a Kel Tec PLR-16 Long Range Pistol.

M2, that is a very nice rig!

Chris is right Larry.

It's a Kel Tec PLR-16 .223 pistol. They have been out since about the first of the year.

9 inch barrel.

Sells for $430-$500+.

Uses AR magazines.

Uses a somewhat AK like gas piston and AR like bolt and carrier. Works great and the bolt, carrier and receiver stay clean.

VERY accurate. I'm getting sub 2 inch 100 yard groups.

Muzzle velocity is 2,550+.

Overall length, with the flash hider is, 21.5 inches.

It appears to be an excellent home defense and car gun for some applications (like mine).

It's the most interesting, fun pistol I've had in a long time.

I like it so well I bought a second one. :)

Standing, two hands, 27 yards, BSA Red Dot sight.

Surplus 55gr FMJBT bullet (one of my less accurate loads).

I have a Ruger Speed Six in .38 Special, barrel length 2.75 inches. Currently it's loaded with Winchester 158 LSWCHP +P.
