Missing/Stolen Winchester 1886

An elderly friend of mine has discovered that a Winchester 1886 has gone missing from her house. Unfortunately, this is one of those difficult cases because of the long time-frame, but I have offered to do what I can on the various forums that I am on.

The rifle is a Winchester Model 1886 in .45-90, serial number 78164. It's been a few years since I saw it, but my memory is that the metal was in fairly decent condition, but the finish (varnish?) on the stock was somewhat "bubbled". It has an octagonal barrel and a crescent butt-plate (I can't remember which version).

The unfortunate part is that she doesn't know when it went missing. It could have been as long as two years ago. It may have been someone she entrusted with her firearms for awhile. I would think that anyone who would take this kind of firearm would try to sell it.

This happened in the Mid-Willamette Valley area of Oregon. The most likely places for someone to sell it would be Corvallis, Philomath, Albany or Lebanon.

I am asking that anyone who has any information about this rifle please contact Deputy Jerry Williams of the Benton County Sheriff's Office: jerry.l.williams@co.benton.or.us with reference to case # 16B 4983.

Thanks!
