Hiretenberger 5,56 55gr ammo

Hy folks,

does anyone had some experience with hirtenberger 5,56 55 gr ammo?
I have tried some, with an AR 15 16inch barrel, 1/9 with no good accuracy results. Some primers jump out of the shell after firing, and had lots of jams, and feeding problems. This gets worse using a 20 inch 1/7 barrel

I can't believe it! Hirtenberger has been one of my favorite ammo for many a moon. I have found it to be accurate and reliable. But I can understand why it is inaccurate in your 1:7 twist barrel. It probably does not like a twist that fast. The 1:9 is a standard compromise and should be better.

Doctor:

The primer situation may be the result of an over pressure situation caused by the twist rate but I am uncertain about the malfunctions. See what happens with another brand of 55 grain ammo.

Could you be using 5.56 ammo in a .223 chamber?

Just a thought.

That is my thought too. More and more barrels are being .223 chambered for civilian use. Or the compromise chambering, "Wylde" or some such, I think they call it. That ammo may be more suited to the NATO 5.56 chamber and 1:12 twist rate.
